WHAT DO I PUT IN A CARE PACKAGE FOR A ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO?

Welcome back to my corner of the internet and a completely  new topic of choice! Let’s start with a little story time… so for those of you who are not new to my blog / social media adventure may already know that approximately 3 months ago SDK (La Boyfriend) and I entered a long distance relationship. This was a due to SDK perusing a career path as a Royal Marine Commando, which FYI I am 110% fully supportive of!

When people hear ‘Long distance realtionship’ people tend to freak out a little, admittedly I was one of them. We did a lot of research on the run up to his start date and have found ways and means of making it work! It might come as a shock to a lot of you (and definitely myself) BUT its not been as scary or hard as what we thought!

One thing I’ve definitely learnt is to make the most of everything, have things to look forward to and stay busy! This is what lead me to creating a care package for SDK! Without further ado…

WHAT DO I PUT IN A CARE PACKAGE FOR A ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO?

I basically wanted to put a care package together to send a little bit of home, things SDK might be missing, to put a smile on his face and above all motivate him that not only has he got it in him to completed the Royal Marine Commando course BUT that I also 110% believe in him!

LETS START WITH WHAT I BOUGHT FROM PAPERCHASE…

SDK living space basically consisted of a bed, storage and a pin board. To give it that personalisation the recruits are allowed to pin photos, calendars and other bits and bobs up on their board. As you can image some of the lads images are quite questionable… we will just leave that there! SDK on the other hand has got pictures of friends, family and a few of my family puppa Harry.

I thought I would add to that collection by sending him motivation postcards, a funny card and a dinosaur pin. I picked up all three of these items in the mother of all stationary shops… Paperchase. Two of the postcards are scenic views with the captions ‘ADVENTURE’ and ‘LIFE WITH A VIEW’. I also picked up one that simply says ‘GET SH*T DONE’ and the one I couldn’t resist was ‘SEND NUDES CHOCOLATE’.

The card will probably be filled out with random ramblings, insides jokes and a few motivational quotes. On the front it simply reads..

‘Sometimes when I see your face a tiny bit of excited wee comes out’

You might want to pick up something a bit more personal or romantic but SDK will appreciate this weirdness!

Finally the dinosaur pin! As a recruit you have to take off all jewellery, so when your out in the field all you have on is your kit. I thought the dinosaur pin could possibly be pinned to the inside of his bag or kit so he’s got a little something to remind him of his weirdo girlfriend at home! Soppy I know… you’ll get over it!

NEXT…

You know that saying ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’… well thats basically what I did here! I honestly have no idea about what is the best protein products and so I  just saw the packaging looked super bomb (yes that might be a play on pun with the company be called grenade), the flavours genuinely sounded incredible and also got me questioning why doesn’t Oreo have a Jaffa cake flavour? Anyhowzaaa, I picked up…

  • Jaffa Quake
  • Birthday Cake
  • Dark Chocolate Raspberry
  • Caramel Chaos
  • Peanut Nutter

I think you can find them in most super markets but just incase you can’t, I picked these up from Tescos!

NOW…

I’m going to pre-warn you before I delve in to this section that SDK is a bit of a sweet-aholic! So on camp from what I know they have a cost-cutter so they are not completely cut off from sugary treats and drinks BUT it might not necessarily stock his sugary favs, such as ‘Candy King’. Candy king, is basically a pick and mix counter that is in quite a few super markets in the UK and SDK’s all time favourite sweets. So that was definitely on the list to pick up, as well as…

  • Chupa Chups – Cola, Strawberry and Cherry
  • Basssetts – Jelly Babies Berry Mix
  • Tesco 3for£1 – Strawberry Pencils, Fizzy Pencils and Fizzy Belts
  • Tescos 3for£1 – Sour Snakes, Fizzy Cola Bottles and Fizzy Fangs

I also picked up some Options hot chocolates in the flavours White choc, Belgian Choc and Mint.

MOVING ON TO…

ACS_0391

It’s the run up to Easter! So I definitely wanted to add something to signify that. Which can be a bit difficult because everything is chocolate and lets be honest there is always a risk while sending chocolate in the post that it may melt! & I really didn’t want it ruining the other contents of the box. I decided to go with packeted chocolate eggs, so that if it does melt all he has to do is throw away the packets and the rest of the contents of the box is still A-ok! Fingers crossed! I picked up…

  • Mini Creme Eggs
  • Cadbury Dariy Milk – Daim Eggs
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs

LETS TALK SAVOURY…

This is the final food bit, I promise! We’ve done the protein, the sugary sweets and the chocolate.. now its time for the savoury! Above all I would say between SDK and myself we are suckers for savoury, so crumpets, bagels, crispy, biscuits ect! Side note: I don’t like beef… so I completely winged it picking up these…

  • Beef Jerky – Wood Smoked
  • Beef Jerky – Honey and Chipotle
  • Mr Kipling – Viennese Whirls
  • Mr Kipling – Chocolate Chip Slices
  • Mr Kipling – Angel Slices

Just a little FYI, the food contents of this box will probably last SDK for at least a month as it is mostly for weekend consumption!

NECESSITY PROUCTS…

ACS_0389

When first starting as a Royal Marine Commando, upon arriving all the recruits are required to shave their face and trim their hair. I believe this is so the recruits are equals. Since then SDK hair has grown out, started to regain a little shape and has begun to be allowed to style it in a more personal way during time off as long as on duty it can be maintain under a beret. So I decided to pick up a few hair products, toiletrys and other bits and bobs..

  • Gillette – Artic Ice Antiperspirant Gel
  • Colgate – Mini Toothpaste
  • Colgate – Mini Cool Mint Mouth Wash
  • Tescos – Antibacterial Hand Gel
  • Nivea Men – Mini Shower Gel
  • VO5 – Texturising Gum
  • VO5 – Mega Hold Styling Gel
  • Extra – Gum

I bought a few of these things taking in to mind if he is running low he has a few things to see him through till he next has leave off base to stock up!

FINALLY…

ACS_0393

So SDK was lucky enough to take his Nintendo Switch down to base with him, basically so on a night when all his jobs have been completed + his prep done for the next day is done, he has something to occupy himself. He’s got the typical Mario Kart and Crash Bandicoot so I decided to go with one of my all time favourite games I used to play on the Xbox when I was a child and fingers crossed it is just as good on the Nintendo Switch!

I picked this The Incredibles game up from Tescos which I found was leaps and bounds cheaper than actual game shops such as Game B U T don’t rule out Pre-owned games and places such as CEX because you can save yourself quite a few notes!

AND LASTLY…

The boxers! I think I’ve put on my social media somewhere before that SDK and myself have this on going joke that I buy him comedic underwear with weird illustrations on them. My favourite place to purchase them from is ASOS and these ones are little sloths in a rocket in out of space… standard right?
